Course content

This nationally accredited course is designed for those persons who regularly need to perform electrical work that is associated with a primary work function or activity.

The course provides the knowledge, skills and training required to apply for a Restricted Electrical Licence. This full time course is structured to include both theoretical and practical training. The College’s training facilities allow for skills to be practiced in a simulated workplace environment.

Clients for this course are people who regularly need to perform electrical work that is associated with a primary work function or activity that require a restricted electrical licence issued by Building and  Energy under the following licence categories:

  • Electronics and Communications Licence
  • Plumbing and/or Type A Gasfitting Appliances Licence
  • Domestic Electrical Appliances Licence
  • Disconnect and Reconnect Equipment Licence
  • Specialist category as defined by Building and Energy

Delivery will be by way of a blended learning program, consisting of on-line and face-to-face delivery.

Please note that there is an additional fee for Verification of Competency. Learners are required to return to the college for their Verification of Competency after completing their on-the-job training.

Course requirements

  • People wishing to obtain a Restricted Electrical Licence must contact Building and Energy (ph 08 6251 1900) prior to course enrolment to confirm and obtain approval for licence application and training requirements.

  • Please provide a copy of your Building and Energy approval letter upon registration/enrolment.

  • When all work experience has been completed and signed off by the appropriate supervisor the learner will be required to enrol and complete a verification of competency assessment at CET. An additional fee for this assessment is applicable.

  • Fully enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in CET buildings. Safety boots/shoes must be worn when working in the workshop.

  • Prior to course commencement the learner is required to review the CET Code of Conduct found at Terms & Conditions/Policies page

Certification & assessment

A Statement of Attainment detailing the Units of Competency completed.

Please note: Learners are required to return to the college for their 1 hour verification of competency after completion of on the job training (requirement to obtain the Restricted Electrical Licence only). There is a fee of $250 for Verification of Competency.

Skills recognition

The CET Skills Recognition process benefits applicants who have undergone prior learning and recognises competencies obtained outside a formal educational or training environment, gained through life or work experience.

Competencies currently held by applicants will be formally assessed against each applicable Unit of Competency and maybe recognised regardless of how, when and where they were achieved. Skills Recognition is an assessment process and a cost recovery charge will apply.

CET accepts and provides credit to learners for units of competency and/or modules (unless licensing or regulatory requirements prevent this) where these are evidenced by:

• AQF certification documentation issued by any other RTO or
• AQF authorised issuing organisation; or
• Authenticated VET transcript issued by the Registrar
