About this course

This course is facilitated, certified and delivered by PMV Training (RTO codes 51178 and 52698) through an established partnership with CET. This course will be held at a PMV Training facility and delivered by PMV trainers and assessors.

Course content

You will undergo theory and hands-on practical training with qualified professional electricians and engineers who have been practicing in the PV solar energy industry for over 30 years. This course covers the following topics:

  • Grid-Connected PV Systems Components Safety
  • Selecting and Sizing the Specified Loads
  • Assessing the Switchboard
  • Configurations of PV Grid-Connect System with Battery Storage
  • Permitted Battery and Grid Interaction and offsetting Peak Load
  • Battery Basics and Working with Batteries
  • Secondary Battery Technologies
  • Selecting and Sizing the Battery Storage and PV Array Sizing
  • System Drivers and System Constraints
  • Solar Controller and Selecting, Sizing and Programming Inverters
  • Balance of System Design
  • Wiring standards, Cable Sizing, Circuit Protection
  • Sizing Main Battery Fuses and Battery Isolation and Selection
  • Controller Protection, Battery Enclosure and System Wiring
  • Documenting System Efficiency and Effect of Battery Storage
  • Documenting System Installation, Maintenance and Trouble Shooting
  • Documenting PV system Yield
  • Maintenance of Batteries, Inverter and PV Array
  • Design grid connected power supply systems and select compatible components

Upon the completion of face-to-face delivery and a theory assessment, learners are required to complete a written design project.

Course requirements

To be eligible to enrol in this training, a Statement of Attainment for the Solar Grid Connect PV (Design and Install) course must be provided. This course is also available through CET - learn more here.

Learners must also hold a current WA Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence, or equivalent issued in an Australian State or Territory.

Certification & assessment

PMV Training will issue a Statement of Attainment for each unit of competency completed.

To be awarded a Statement of Attainment, you must hold a current unrestricted electrical license issued by an Australian state or territory.

Engineers with an electrical background are eligible to be awarded with design-only units.
