Course information

Course content

These courses focus on the practical aspect of testing and connecting service connections. Various training aids and activities are included in the courses (e.g. live connections) to enable participants to directly apply the knowledge gained in the workplace.

Please note that there are five available options for this training:

  • PTS 877 – SCT Direct Refresher (SACS & CCS authorised) - 1 day
  • PTS 877 – SCT Direct (SACS & CCS authorised) - 2 days
  • PTS 866 - Install and maintain low voltage underground for SACS connection includes Pit & Pillars - 3 days
  • PTS 867 - Install and maintain low voltage underground for SACS connection without Pit - 2 days
  • PTS 868 - Install and maintain low voltage underground services for SACS connection Pit connection - 1 day

Course requirements

Applicants must hold a current WA Unrestricted Electricians Licence, have a letter of approval from Western Power to enrol in this course and have a working knowledge of both written and spoken English.

Fully enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in CET buildings. Safety boots/shoes and long sleeved-shirts and long pants must be worn when working in the workshop. For more information please see the learner handbook.

Course materials

Learners are required to obtain the following materials and equipment for reference and use during this course:

• AS/NZS 3000: latest edition (available for purchase from the CET) Course Equipment/PPE
• Long sleeved shirt and long pants
• Safety shoes
• Safety glasses
• Rubber gloves rated at least 500V ac
• Leather gloves
• Cotton gloves
• Hand tools required to make safe electrical connection
• Multi Meter
• Insulation Resistance Tester
• Earth Loop Tester capable of doing A-N Testing

Note: All testers are to have a current Calibration Certificate.

Candidates are encouraged to bring their own measuring equipment and tools. You will be trained to use this equipment. Meters, testers and tools are available for use on the course but you must supply your own PPE.

Certification & assessment

Upon successful course completion students will be provided with a certificate of completion.
