CET provides this Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship for women early career starters through the Big Sister program, to gain a UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start).
An electrical pre-apprenticeship is the recognised first step to becoming an electrician in WA. This program builds hands-on trade skills, essential safety knowledge and real workshop experience so you’re ready to transition into an Apprenticeship in the Electrotechnology Industry.
Please note, an Electrician’s Training Licence is arranged as part of induction.
The Big Sister Program is a major initiative in WA and SA and is part of the Building Women’s Careers (BWC) Program. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, the program aims to increase the participation and retention of women in the energy and electrical trades through awareness, training, and mentoring.

The UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) prepares learners for a career start in the energy sector environment. If you possess great communication skills, an interest in problem solving, good hand-eye coordination and enjoy technical work, you could benefit from this course.
This certificate is part of the electrotechnology pre apprenticeship pathway that helps learners prepare for their electrical apprenticeship. It will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a strong foundation for a fulfilling career in the electrotechnology industry. Upon successful completion of the course, learners may wish to complete the UEE30820 Certificate III In Electrotechnology Electrician to gain certification in electrotechnology.

To participate in work placement, you must obtain a pre-apprenticeship training licence. This licence will be organised on the first day of your pre-apprenticeship at CET. No action is required until this time. Please note this has a fee of $88 which is payable by the learner directly to Building and Energy, and also requires a questionnaire to be completed. A copy of this licence must be provided to CET prior to any work placement. All applicants are required to undertake a literacy and numeracy readiness assessment administered by the College. The test is of a year 11-12 level and is specific to transposition of formula, trigonometric ratio and algebra. Candidates who have not yet completed year 10 studies are welcome to sit the readiness assessment.
Applicants meeting the course requirements will be invited to attend an interview at the College, during which, suitability for course enrolment will be assessed.
All Core Units of Competency must be achieved, all Elective Units of Competency must be achieved
Participants are required to undertake a minimum number of work placement hours calculated on the following ratio: for every two (2) student curriculum hours for the qualification there should be a minimum of one (1) hour work placement.
Fully enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in CET buildings. Safety boots/shoes and long sleeved-shirts and long pants must be worn when working in the workshop. For more information please see the learner handbook.

Graduates will be issued with a certificate and a record of results showing the units of competency completed.
The CET Skills Recognition process benefits applicants who have undergone prior learning and recognises competencies obtained outside a formal educational or training environment, gained through life or work experience. Competencies currently held by applicants will be formally assessed against each applicable Unit of Competency and maybe recognised regardless of how, when and where they were achieved. Skills Recognition is an assessment process and a cost recovery charge will apply.
CET accepts and provides credit to learners for units of competency and/or modules (unless licensing or regulatory requirements prevent this) where these are evidenced by either AQF certification documentation issued by any other RTO or AQF authorised issuing organisation or an authenticated VET transcript issued by the Registrar.
